London Design Guide

Getting in the mood for the big move now! Bought this book as thought it'd be a handy one to have. Nice and cheap and it divides the city into different sections, highlighting various designery places to check out - from the more obvious large institutions to smaller galleries on street corners, popular design focused bookshops and more.

The Museum of Brands, Packaging & Advertising

Saw this museum on TV the other day on a travel show, must make a trip when I move over to London. It looks great, it's a huge collection of different everyday objects through the ages - it would be interesting to see the various changes in the packaging and graphic design of these objects. For more details, check out their website.

The National Print Museum

I visited the National Print Museum in Beggars Bush today. It was fascinating to see all the different types of printing presses from the Gutenberg press from the 1800s all the way through to the Linotype and Intertype presses. Also it was interesting to see the typography used at this time, and to handle fonts familiar to myself such as 'Bodoni' and 'Impact' with each individual character cast in metal.

Studio On Fire

Studio On Fire design and letterpress studio. I'd love to have gone to their open studio day back in April to see their design work and the letterpress in action, but unfortunately their studio is over in Minneapolis.

Internship

Delighted to be offered an internship with Form over in London. Heading over there mid June, looking forward to moving over and the chance of doing work experience in such a creative studio! Check out their work at www.form.uk.com

Maser

Continuing on the theme of street art, I'm a fan of Maser's work, a graffiti artist familiar to most Dubliners as his work can be seen all over the city, especially around the Bernard Shaw - check out more on his website.

Banksy Documentary

Banksy from Elodie Peboscq on Vimeo.

Saw this a few weeks ago, unfortunately missed his exhibition in Bristol last summer, but bought a book on his work. This documentary thought is great, I'd recommend anyone interested in street art to take a look.
